Lagos panel summons 3 directors of Techno oil

The Lagos State judicial panel on restitution for victims of SARS related abuses and other matters today Tuesday 16th March, 2021 resumed sitting for the week by taking on 10 petitions brought before it.

In the first petition of the day of Tella Adesanya vs the Nigeria police force, the panel after the adoption of written address by both parties reserved ruling to a date to be communicated to both parties in due course.

In the 2nd petition of the day involving Mr. Oliver Chukwuemeka vs federal special anti robbery squad (FSARS), the panel adjourned hearing to 20th of April 2021 to allow the panel determine that the petitioner has no subsisting court case with regards to the petition

In the 3rd petition of the day of Mr. Oluwatosin Temitope vs the the Nigeria police force, the panel adjourned the matter to 13th April, 2021 to allow for tendering of some documents critical to the case as well as the summons of the leader of the police team that assaulted the petitioner..

In the 4th petition of the day of prince Ayeni Adebayo vs federal special anti robbery squad (FSARS) the panel after listening to the cross examination of the petitioner, granted the petitioner request to summon 3 executive directors of Techno oil namely Mrs Nkechi Obi, Mr. Anthony Onyeama and Mr. Godfrey Okigbo to appear before it at the next adjourned date of 16th April, 2021.

In the 5th to the 10th petitions of the day, the matters were adjourned to dates in April, 2021 for hearing save for the case of Mr. Lucky Igbinova, Elvis Irenuma and Effiong Elems Edu vs federal special anti robbery squad (FSARS). The 3 petitioners are ex staff of late Chief Alfred Rewane who was assassinated in his Ikeja GRA residence during the tenure of late military dictator Sani Abacha and were detained for 16 years in which they were brutalized and tortured by SARS operative of which 5 of their colleagues are no more as a result of the tortured received from SARS. The petitioner counsel stated that the petitioners were 8 in number when they were taken into custody to explain what they knew about the assassination of the late Itshekiri Chief. However the police counsel raised objection to the jurisdiction of the panel hearing the petition solely against the Nigeria police because in his words, the murder of late Chief Alfred Rewane was a national matter which involved the DMI, DSS and the Nigeria police force.

The panel then adjourned the matter to 20th April, 2021 to rule on the issue of jurisdiction raised by the respondent
