The funeral rites for late Filmmaker, Chico Meziakpono John Ejiro, commenced on Tuesday with a Night of Tributes organised by his colleagues.

The event which kicked off at 4pm, and held at the open field of the National Arts Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos, was anchored by top actor and musician, Segun Arinze.

It had top industry practitioners in attendance, including  Richard Mofe-Damijo(RMD), Paul Obazele, Keppy Ekpenyong and his wife, Fidelis Duker and wife, Opa Williams, Francis Onwochei, Emeka Ossai, Uche Iwuji, Peace Anyiam Osigwe, Fred Amata, GM National Theatre, Prof. Sunday Dada, Azuh Arinze, Rhoda Osas Eweka, Helen Inegbeneki, Mahmood Ali-Balogun, Zik Zulu Okafor, Ikenna Umeononuju(Divine Merchants) and wife, Abay Esho, Pat Oghre, Bond Emeruwa, Amb. Cornell Udofia, Agata Amata, Victor Okhai, Eddy Lawani, DG Censors Board, Alh. Adedayo Thomas, Collins Onwochei, Kingsley Ogoro, among several others.

 

International music star, Sammie Okposo drew the first tears from the crowd when he rendered Chico’s favourite song, “Aka, aka ya”, when he led the praise and worship session.

Colleagues took turns to eulogise the late Filmmaker’s virtues. These include, Agatha Amata, Zik Zulu Okafor, Mahmood Ali-Balogun, Hon. Desmond Elliot, Azuh Arinze, Kingsley Ogoro, Opa Williams and RMD.

Veteran actor, Paul Obazele, led former DGN boss, Fidelis Duker, Temitope Duker, Opa Williams and others in the organisation of the evening which had just 200 persons in attendance with thousands of Nigerians following on Zoom.

The event was rounded off with a documentary on Chico put together by his industry friends, titled, “Mr Prolific”.
