Ogun Govt Orders Okada Unions To Stop Sales Of Booking Stickers

ABEOKUTA – Ogun State government has directed motorcycles unions in the state popularly known as Okada to desist from the sale of State and Booking stickers for their members until ongoing reforms in the sector are resolved. 

The directive followed protest by commercial motorcycles riders in the state over hike in sales of daily ticket and compulsory purchase of booking stickers by the motorcycles unions in the state.

But the Commissioner for Transportation in the state, Engr. Gbenga Dairo in a press statement issued in Abeokuta on Monday ordered the immediate embargo on the sales of booking stickers, insisting on the sales of daily tickets as source of revenue generation for the state government.

The Commissioner therefore, enjoined the union leaders and members to conduct themselves with civility, stressing that, the state government would not tolerate any act capable of putting lives of passengers and general public in danger.

“Motorcycles unions, riders and other stakeholders are therefore reminded to give consideration to the, roles and interests of all stakeholders in the sector in the conduct of their activities and desist from any action that can adversely affect the legitimate interest of stakeholders in the sector.

“In the meantime, unions and associations involved in revenue collection are asked to maintain status quo and desist from issuance of ‘State’ and ‘Booking’ stickers until on-going discussions on sector reforms, involving all stakeholders, are completed.

“Union leaders and their members are urged to conduct themselves with civility. Devoid of any act capable of putting the lives of passengers and the general public in danger.

“Ogun State government assures the good people of the State of its unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property within its parks and garages in particular and the entire State in general
